Overall the 18th mildest January in 68 years.  A mild start in the first half of the month. Then much colder, recovering by the very end of the month.
Rainfall was a little below normal, but what there was all fell in the first half of the month, the second half being exceptionally dry.
The latter half of the month was mostly sunny, as high pressure established, except 27th and 28th, the first half less so.
It was much windier 1st to 14th, and 29th onwards.
Ground frosts from 15th to 28th, and colder giving airfrosts on 10 consecutive days from 17th to 26th . The coldest night was –5.6C on 17th.

Mean temperature was the 7th mildest in 68 years here, following last year which was the 5th= mildest. Coldest spells were 6th – 8th and 26th – 27th. Mildest was 14th to 21st. The Mean Max was 4th mildest, and Mean Min was 8th mildest.
Hi Max was 7th mildest, High Min was 6th mildest.

For the Winter season, the mean temp is the 24th highest, slightly above the median.
Rainfall was the 9th  lowest, raindays were 7th highest, wet days 10th lowest, and very wet days 9th lowest       

Temperatures overall were normal, although somewhat lower in the first half of the month then somewhat higher in the second half. Most days had some rain, except 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 27th .
This was the 2nd wettest March on record in 68 years, beaten only  in 1981, all but 3 days having rain. Total rainfall exceeded double the normal amount. Very wet days were 9th-13th, 20th, and 29th-31st. The 25.0mm ainfall on the 9th ranked the 6th wettest March day on record.

Solar radiation was quite changeable during the month, although more bright days fell in the second half of the month.

Spring 2023 had the 14th highest mean temperature, with an anomaly of +0.9 deg. Rainfall overall was 130% of normal, the 9th wettest Spring.
So overall a mild Spring with higher than average rainfall.

A mostly settled month with 2nd highest Mean and MMax temperatures (beaten by 2006) and the highest MMin on record. The mean temperature was 2.8 deg above normal. Very warm between 10th and 28th. Rainfall was  62% of normal, but only ranking 25th lowest in 68 years, which fell on 10-12, 17-22 and 28-30, so there were many dry days. Thunder was heard on 3 days, within the first two of the rainy spells. Windiest on 9, 25-26.

SEASONAL REPORT FOR Summer (Jun, Jul, Aug 2023)

Overall Summer was warm with normal rainfall, but looking at the 3months, temperatures were warmer +1.0deg in Jun, cooler -0.6deg in July and normal +0.1deg in Aug.  Rainfall was drier 63% in Jun,  wet 158% in July and drier 77% in Aug,  So individually June was warmer than normal, abd July was wetter than normal. While June and Aug were drier.

A hot beginning to September, 1st to 11th, then back to normal range of temperatures. Over the whole month, the mean temperature anomoly was an impressive +3.0 deg.

A mild October overall, mildest up to 11th then below normal after that. Two ground frosts on 15th and 16th. Two very dull and wet days on 13th and 20th. Significant rainfall 10th-13th when 75mm fell, and 17th – 20th when 89mm fell, with saturated ground. Greatest daily rainfall was 36.4mm on 19th, 34.2mm on 12th, 31.6mm on 18th. There were some more pleasant sunnier spells from 7th-9th and then 14th-17th  when clear night skies produced the frosts.  So some respite from the rain. 
Quite windy too, especially at the beginning of the month.
So not the nicest gardening weather, but nothing needed watering!

Although November began slightly warmer than usual, from the 24th onwards temperatures plummeted remaining entirely below the normal, and this is when all 3 air frosts and 6 of the 9 ground frosts occurred. The number of air frosts was the 15th fewest in 68 years.
Rainfall was distributed across the month, although the total was slightly below normal. Sunniest days were 6,7, then 15, 17, but most at the end of the month 24,25,28,29. Dullest days were 2, 12, 19 and 26,27.
The mean pressure was 8th lowest on record here, owing to the deep depression storm Ciaran during the first week passing by. It was a windy month, but little wind from 25th.

Autumn had the 3rd highest mean temperature in 68 years here, 1.8 degrees above normal. Rainfall was the 8th wettest with 151% the normal amount, and the number of raindays was the 2nd highest, 140% of normal.

December's mean temperature was the 5th mildest in 69 years records here, 2.0 degrees above normal, in fact most days kept well above normal except for 1st to 6th and 13th to 15th.
Rainfall was the highest December total on record 152.6mm, nearly double the normal amount, with the 5th highest raindays and wet days. Wettest days were 3rd with 35mm (the 2nd wettest December day on record), 4th with 20mm, 18th with 13mm and 26th with over 12mm.
Only 19 years have had fewer airfrosts, and only 8 years have had fewer ground frosts. Windiest days were 21st, 9th and 27/28th . So a very wet and mild December.

ANNUAL SUMMARY FOR 2023

2023 had the 3rd highest mean temperature in 69 years here, 9 months having at least the normal mean temperature and only 3 months (April, July and August) had lower than normal. The mean minimum temperature was the highest on record.

Rainfall ranked 9th highest in 69 years, with a new record number of  237 raindays, and 161 wetdays (3rd highest on record). Thw wettest months were March,October and December, each having around double the normal rainfall. February was extremely dry with only 21% of normal rainfall.

So overall a much milder and wetter year than normal, with several records broken.
