Another mild month (2.5 deg above normal) with mean max, mean min and daily mean all more typical of mid March/mid April. The maximum temp exceeded 10 deg on 12 days. Cold frosty nights 23-26, with mean temp barely above zero 23-24. Dusting of snow fell early hours 23rd. Rainfall below normal (86%), wettest spells 6-7, 9, 17. Windy 4,6,8-9,11 with gales late on 17th and all day 18th. April was an unseasonally very warm, dry and pleasant month. The highest temperature recorded beats the 25.4C recorded in 2003. Rainfall has only been lower twice since 1956 (4.0mm in 1984, 3.3mm in 1957). The only worthwhile rain fell between 22nd and 24th. Windy or breezy 1-4, 20, 24-30. Most days saw much sunshine or good sunny spells. After an exceptionally dry April, this brings the total rain for April and May back to "normal". Sharp rain fell during afternoon of 31st with thunder. Statistically temperatures were normal, but the mean reached 15deg on the warmest days 17th, 23rd-25th, and fell below 8deg on 27th and 28th. Highest maximum temperature was 23.5 on 23rd and 24th, while the lowest minimum was 2.3 on 30th, with signs of a slight ground frost. There were some windy spells 1st-2nd, and 19th. With 181.1mm of rain this has been the wettest July and the 3rd wettest single month since records started in Halesowen in 1956. The total rain for May, June and July has been a record 485.9mm (beating the previous highest 294mm in 1968). Total rainfall for the year so far is already 708mm (our annual mean is 779mm). The 20th July brought 68mm, the 4th highest of any day here (previous highest was 74.9mm on 19/8/70). A cooler July than usual, although 12 other years have been cooler. It was mostly cloudy until 15th, then a brighter and sunnier until 19th. Cloudy, dull and very wet 20th-21st. Quite a cloudy month with brighter spells 17th-21st and 29th-31st. With higher than usual minimum temps and around normal maximum temps, the month had slightly above average temps overall. It remained mild until 17th, then turned cooler, becoming mild again 29-31st. Only worthwhile rain was 8th-9th, 13th-16th and 26th-29th, but totalled just 30.2mm, making it the driest October here since 1978, and the lowest number of raindays since 1995.
